The Fall Fling is a celebration of the wide variety of Appalachian music touching:

  • The 18th century through modal fiddle and dance tunes,
  • The 19 th century through string band music and songs,
  • The 20 th century’s early radio music, including early jazz, swing and bluegrass,
  • Celtic music from Ireland and Scotland,
  • Up to the present-day music of writers and instrumentalists who are driving under the influence of the entire world.

The informal weekend of concerts, workshops, and jams features many fine local and regional musicians and several working bands. It’s not just for listening and watching, it’s for taking part.

Within the festival is a contra dance weekend, an opportunity to whirl around for hours in the company of other energetic dancers.
