What is the …FOOTbridge Award

Since 2002,  FOOTMAD, the Friends Of Old-Time Music and Dance, have endeavored to let people know that they are of real value to the traditional music and dance community. The FOOTbridge award is presented to someone for his or her outstanding contribution.

The concept of a bridge design is used because

On a musical instrument…a bridge

• Guides and supports the strings
• Establishes the scale (sets a standard)
• Helps conduct sound from string to body

In Music….a bridge

• Connects different segments
• Provides an interlude

Architecturally….a bridge

• Connects isolated or difficult to reach places
• Establishes a flow and exchange of traffic/commerce ideas/knowledge)
• Lifts you above obstacles
• Links people (age groups, cultures)
