THE ST ALBANS SCOTTISH FIDDLE ORCHESTRA
THE ST ALBANS SCOTTISH FIDDLE ORCHESTRA
Six years ago, a group of Cathy Grant’s fiddle students asked her to teach them some Scottish tunes. Cathy, who has been teaching fiddle to students of all ages in West Virginia for over 25 years, liked the idea.
“It started as a casual Sunday afternoon get-together. Then the next Sunday, and the one after that. The group kept growing. Most had some connection to Scotland, but some just wanted to learn the tunes.”
The group now has 10 regular fiddle players, backed up by guitar (Tom Thurman) and keyboards (Libby Musser).
“We’ve recently added some younger players,” said Cathy. “That makes me happy because it’s the whole purpose of what I do as a teacher: passing the tradition on.”
